Ultima Ratio
UK private emergency services provider

Who Are Ultima Ratio?
Ultima Ratio is an early-stage UK company building a private emergency service. Like most startups, its earliest technology decisions were made quickly, under pressure, and without anyone in the room whose job it was to ask whether the platform being chosen would still suit the business in two years.
By the time In The Sky IT was engaged, the company had already discovered that its initial platform choice was not going to carry it forward. It needed three things: a clear view of what its technology stack should look like, a way out of the arrangement it was already in, and a route to the regulatory and legal support that a business in its sector needs before it scales.
What We Delivered
-
Technology review: We reviewed the company's website and wider technology stack and set out, in plain terms, what was serving the business well and what was going to constrain it.
-
Vendor selection: We advised on how to evaluate platform options against the company's actual requirements rather than against a feature list, and on what to look for in the commercial terms as well as the technology.
-
Changing supplier: Leaving a platform you have already built on is harder than choosing one in the first place. We advised on how to make that transition without losing what had already been built and without a second expensive mistake.
-
Compliance and legal routing: Businesses in this sector carry obligations that most technology suppliers know nothing about. We advised the company on where to go to establish its industry compliance position, and referred it to corporate lawyers in our professional network who work in the relevant field.
The Result
Ultima Ratio now has a technology direction it chose deliberately rather than inherited, a clear route out of the arrangement that was holding it back, and named specialists to work with on the compliance and legal questions that sit outside our remit. The company knows which decisions it can make itself, which need expert input, and where to get it.
